Notes for Jacques Asselin
5 Extract from the book, Jacques Asselin chapter:
Jacques could even hope to marry a daughter of the country. Living in the territory of the seigneury of Notre-Dame-des-Anges was a worthy family, that of Jean Roussin, from Tourouvre,
farmer for the Jesuits.
From his first wife,
Madeleine Giguère, he had five children; four of them:
Madeleine, Françoise, Nicolas and Louise, came to New France with him in the spring of 1650.
At Québec, Jean was remarried,
to Marie Letard, on 25 October 1655.

The youngest, Louise Roussin, baptized at Saint-Aubin de Tourouvre on 11 March 1642, caught the attention and the heart of Jacques Asselin. At Québec, on Sunday. 2 July 1662, there was a Roussin family meeting in the house of Anne Ardouin, widow of Jacques Badeau. Supporting the bride were Jean Roussin and Marie Letard, brothers-in-law Michel Huppé and Pierre Loignon, and Nicolas Roussin, Louise's brother. On the side of Jacques Asselin were David Asselin, his brother, Charles Gaultier, Sieur de Boisverdun, a merchant living in the Lower Town, Jean Premont, the sailors Pierre Dufresne. Blaise Terre and Jacques David dit Pontifé, the latter originally from Bracquemont in Normandy. The document by the notary Audouart conformed to the coutume de Paris. Jacques offered his dearly beloved a dowry of 300 lives.
On the following Saturday, 29 July. after the publication of the marriage banns for Jacques Asselin, sailor, and Louise Roussin, they were married by Father Thomas Morel, according to the manner prescribed by the Church.
A new founding family had just been formed in the Saint
Lawrence Valley.
