Notes for Urbain Tessier dit Lavigne
“On September 28 of 1648, after the fall harvest, twelve-year-old Marie Archambault and her sister Jacquette, who was not much older than Marie, celebrated a double wedding at the Church of Notre-Dame at Québec. On that day, Marie married Urbain Tessier dit Lavigne, a strong young sawyer. Jacquette married Paul Chalifoux. While Jacquette remained in Québec, Marie sailed up the Saint Lawrence River with her new husband to join her sister Anne in the settlement on Montréal Island.[ 108] Anne and Marie Archambault were followed in short order by their parents Jacques Archambault and Françoise Toureau, along with their three youngest siblings.[ 109] The Archambault family had arrived in Québec in 1646 from Dompierre-sur-Mer, a little hamlet about five miles from La Rochelle. It seems Jacques was intent upon marrying off his young daughters as soon as possible. The three oldest wed within two years of their arrival in the colony.”

“Marie Archambault, the wife of Urbain Tessier dit Lavigne, also lived thirty years as a widow. She, too, had the resources to manage without remarrying. Her husband, who died in 1689 at age sixty-three, had acquired multiple properties during his lifetime. At Urbain’s death, Marie still had a half-dozen sons who could help with the farm work. Marie died on August 16, 1719 at Pointe-aux-Trembles, where three of her daughters, Marie-Louise, Agnes, and Petronille, had settled with their families. She reached the age of eighty-three.[”
