Etienne Charles dit Lajeunesse was a part of this famous regiment. The Marquis de Tracy had special confidence in four companies: Chambelle, Orléans, Allier and Poitou. The captain of the latter was Francois Tapie de Monteil; Michel Hébert dit Laverdure was the sergeant; Etienne Charles dit Lajeunesse was a faithful soldier.
These four companies left La Rochelle on 26 February 1664, headed for the Antilles. The purpose was to help the settlement of new colonist by a show of military force at Cayenne, the capital of Guyana, which was being held by the Dutch. There is no doubt that ancestor Charles took part in these campaigns for the consolidation of French power.

On 25 April 1665, some 200 men received orders to leave Guadeloupe, sail north through the Atlantic, enter the Gulf of Saint-Lawrence, reprovision at Percé, thence proceed to Quebec. On 30 June following, General Tracy and his troops, a sixth of New the regiment, France. made their well received entry into the capital of New France
