Notes for Marie-Madeleine (Spouse 1)
“François Fafard was the royal interpreter of the Ottawa at Fort Pontchartrain du Détroit. François was bringing trade goods to the Ottawa of the Great Lakes as early as 1694 and was part of the original convoy to Détroit led by Cadillac in 1701. In March 1707, Fafard received two pieces of property at Détroit from Cadillac. He, his wife Marie-Madeleine Jobin, and their children settled there. In January 1711, the couple’s nineteen-year-old daughter Marie-Madeleine married Prudent Robert dit Lafontaine at Détroit. By fall, the newlyweds had returned to Boucherville. Their sixteen children were born there or nearby.[”
