Notes for May Evelyn Guertin
May Evelyn Guertin moved to Long Beach, California in 1901 and owned and operated one of the first ocean seaside "resorts" in Long Beach known as Venetian Square. May's son, Victor Hart, ran Venetian Square until early 1960, when the city of Long Beach purchased it from him for the land they needed for their redevelopment plans. The resort was very near the famous, but now gone, "Pike", which was very similar to Coney Island. It was a popular spot for many years and was a well known spot to the Navymen who were on leave during WW II as Long Beach was (until recently) considered to be a Naval port.
